Getting from Gran Canaria Airport to Casa Tilda
Gran Canaria Airport (LPA) sits on the east coast of the island. Casa Tilda is in Tauro, in the municipality of Mogán on the south-west coast, which is roughly a 45-minute drive. The route is almost entirely motorway and is one of the easiest airport transfers in the Canaries. Here are the four ways to do it.
By hire car — the option we recommend
The rental desks are in the arrivals terminal, with the pick-up area a short walk away. Leaving the airport, follow signs for the GC-1 southbound, towards Maspalomas and Mogán. You stay on that motorway almost the whole way: past Maspalomas, past Puerto Rico, and off at the Tauro exit.
The GC-1 is a fast, modern road with no tolls. The final stretch turns inland and climbs gently into the Tauro valley. Allow around 45 minutes in normal traffic, a little more if you land in the late afternoon.
A car is worth it here. The villa has private parking, the beaches and the harbour towns are all a few minutes away, and the interior of the island is only reachable in any comfortable way by road.
By taxi
Official taxis queue directly outside the arrivals hall, and no booking is needed. The journey to Tauro takes about the same 45 minutes as driving yourself. Fares to the southern resorts are regulated, and the driver will know the area — give Tauro, Mogán as the destination and we will have sent you the exact address with your arrival information.
By private transfer
Pre-booked transfers meet you in arrivals with a name board and take you straight to the door. This is the least stressful option after a long flight or with small children and a lot of luggage, and it usually costs less than a taxi for a group of six. Book it before you travel rather than on arrival.
By public bus
Global, the island bus company, runs coaches from the airport down to the southern resorts, including the Puerto Rico area next to Tauro. It is by far the cheapest way to cross the island, and the coaches are comfortable, but you will still need a short taxi ride at the end, and the journey takes considerably longer with luggage.
Check the operator's current timetable before relying on it, especially for late arrivals.
Arriving at the villa
Check-in is from 17:00 and check-out by 10:00. Earlier check-in or later check-out can sometimes be arranged for a surcharge, depending on the bookings either side of yours — just ask.
You will receive the exact address, directions and access details with your arrival information once your booking is confirmed. If your flight is delayed or you are held up on the road, message us on WhatsApp and we will sort it out.
Practical notes for the drive
A few things that make the first evening easier:
- There are large supermarkets in Puerto Rico and Mogán, a few minutes from the villa — easier than shopping at the airport
- Fill the tank before you return the car; fuel near the airport is the usual last-minute scramble
- The south of the island is reliably sunny even when the north is clouded over, so do not judge the week by the weather you land in
- Sunset is early and quick this far south — the rooftop terrace is worth being back for
